Procedural maps that are always fully connected. Checked on every single map, not hoped for.

Every map generator worth using has the same failure mode. It makes a nice looking dungeon, and somewhere in it there is a room nobody can reach. You do not find out in the editor. You find out when a player spends ten minutes looking for a key that was sealed behind a wall.

Mapwright will not hand you that map.

Four generators

  • Rooms and corridors for dungeons, with room size, density and corridor width.
  • Caves by cellular automata, with fill, smoothing and the birth and survival limits exposed.
  • Drunkard's walk for organic, winding layouts.
  • Maze by recursive backtracking, with loop braiding so it is not one miserable dead end after another.

The connectivity guarantee

Every one of those generators can produce isolated pockets of floor. Most tools re-roll and hope you do not notice.

Mapwright floods the floor to find every separate region, carves the shortest corridor between the two closest regions, and repeats until exactly one region is left. The verification panel shows you the count before and after, and export is blocked if the map is not one region.

The border is sealed before joining rather than after, because sealing afterwards can cut a corridor that ran along the edge and split the map back in two. Small detail, and it is the sort of thing that produces a bug you chase for an afternoon.

Seeded and reproducible

The same seed always gives the exact same map. Store the seed and the parameters instead of the grid and your save files get very small.

It works with Tilewright

Drop a mapping.json and tileset.png from a Tilewright pack into Mapwright and the map draws with your own autotiles instead of flat colour. The exported map.tmx then carries real autotile ids and references tilewright.tsx, so Tiled opens it with the terrain already drawn correctly.

One tool makes the tiles. The other makes the maps out of them. They use the same bit convention on purpose.

It runs offline and it wants nothing from you

One HTML file. No installer, no account, no sign in, no network call, no telemetry.

Tested, not just shipped

12 automated checks in a real browser before release, including 120 generated maps across 4 generators, 5 sizes and 6 seeds, every one verified as a single connected region with a sealed border, plus determinism, export validity and the Tilewright integration.

Try it first

The browser demo on this page is the complete tool with exporting switched off. Every generator and every slider works.

Licence

Maps you generate are yours, free or commercial, no credit required. Do not resell Mapwright itself as a map generator of your own.

Built with AI assistance. The tool is original code and the maps are produced by ordinary algorithms, not by a model.
